Agreed. The nice thing about the game was how easy and casual it could be (in a space people already were and really basic rules to start) and then the extra rules opened things up as folks were drawn in. RSS is not a “space people already are” — at least not anymore.
This conversation getting at one of the central dilemmas about teaching with #DoOO (that I’ve done for five years now), that is: how to create synergy and a group communal space while ALSO encouraging/requiring the class to publish on their own spaces. Hub vs Outpost.
I wrote this a while ago on the idea: peterorabaugh.org/uncategorized/… .. lately I’ve been using Slack as the commune part while sticking with @ReclaimHosting domains (but only for upper level Ss, not in GenEd classes).
I don’t know if this is any use, but you can follow any Mastodon account through RSS, just put .rss or .atom on the end of an account’s URL. For example:
