Many systems include both RDF and mf2. Can use WordPress, Ruby on Rails, Jekyl, Plurd, Drupal, SSG.. So seems agnostic. Relying on HTML seems like a great path to plurality… Not the most technical person FYI.. Learning.

With all due respect, please do check the wiki on its position/understanding on LinkedData/RDF and related tech. Judge for yourself whether it is genuine. Try to develop/push/evangelise non-microformats-centric/”IndieWeb” (whatever that is) approaches (eg RDFa).
When I click on the @socialwebwg in you pinned tweet I see the same faces from #IndieWeb community. Maybe the cues the same but Metadata slightly different? Again not a technical person. Just a blogger who loves the #IndieWeb tools and values (jgregorymcverry.com/4731-2/)
Like I said, a lot of baggage on mf that leaked into IWC. The “tension” that you are referring to is *literally* the IW governance that’s speaking on behalf of everyone/everything.
